In a world that often pressures us to conform, to fit neatly into boxes of predictability and control, it’s vital to remember the beauty of our emotional nature. Recently, I delved into Alexandra Roxo’s F*ck Like a Goddess, a book that has resonated deeply with me. Recommended by a dear friend – another goddess in her own right – this book has become a soulful companion, each page opening new doors to self-discovery and understanding. Alexandra poignantly captures a truth we all need to embrace:
“We must create the changes we are thirsty for
Honouring the divine spark in you –
Which means a shift away from lives constructed around capitalist ideas about success, business, or family.
It means honouring a flow that is bigger than you
A flow that is like nature
One minute it’s sunny
The next, the clouds have rolled in
A breeze picks up
Then a lightning bolt cracks
Thunder rolls, and a rain shower falls
And only 30 minutes later, there’s a rainbow in the sky
This is how the divine flow of energy creation rolls
Like a wild, primal force you cannot control
And when you try to control it or suppress it
It will rebel
Which is where we find ourselves as a whole, as a human race in the moment.”
These words struck me like a lightning bolt, awakening a long-forgotten truth: our emotions, like nature, are meant to be experienced fully.
Lately, I’ve been navigating intense inner storms – emotional upheavals that arrive as unexpectedly as a summer thunderstorm. One moment, the skies of our souls are clear, and the next, thunder rumbles deep within us, rain pouring down in passionate torrents, washing away old narratives. Just as suddenly, the storm subsides, leaving behind a clarity and softness that can only arise from embracing the chaos.
For far too long, I believed that these emotional shifts were signs of weakness. I thought I should be steadier, more composed, less prone to the ebbs and flows that seemed to sweep me away. But Alexandra Roxo’s insights remind us: we are part of nature. Our emotions are like the weather – fleeting, intense, and, most importantly, natural. They deserve to be felt, to be embraced, and to flow through us like a gentle breeze or a sudden downpour.
In a society that often celebrates control and predictability, it’s easy to forget that we belong to a greater, more ancient flow – a wild, primal rhythm that doesn’t adhere to societal norms. This flow twists and turns, just like the seasons or the ocean tides. To honour this flow is to honour the essence of creation itself.
When we resist our emotional currents, we create internal conflict, akin to damming a river. The pressure builds until it finds a release, often in ways that are chaotic or unexpected. We, too, yearn for freedom, for the ability to move with the flow of our feelings. Our emotions are not adversaries; they are guides, leading us to deeper self-awareness and understanding.
Living fully means embracing our emotional landscape in all its variability – dancing in the rain, relishing the sun, and listening to the thunder that echoes within us. Each emotional state we experience, like the weather, is temporary and fluid, carrying lessons if we’re willing to receive them. There’s no “right” or “wrong” way to feel. Just as we wouldn’t chastise the sky for raining, we must extend that same compassion to ourselves.
Alexandra reminds us, “We must create the changes we are thirsty for.” This is an invitation to honour our unique emotional flow, to be guided by our inner currents rather than societal expectations of how we “should” feel or behave. It’s about granting ourselves permission to change and grow, to explore the unpredictable directions our feelings take us.
Honouring our divine spark means recognising that we are nature – untamed and ever-evolving. Our lives shouldn’t be meticulously controlled but rather lived passionately, embracing the depth and beauty that comes with being authentically alive.
So, let’s celebrate the storms within us – the sunny days, the fleeting showers, and the unexpected rainbows. Let’s trust in the divine energy flowing through us, guiding us towards a richer understanding of ourselves and our place in the world.
We are nature too. Let’s move like the wind, flow like rivers, and allow ourselves to feel every emotion. In this embracing, we come alive.
